The best party of the year just got better: Good bye, Mission Beach . . . Hello, Downtown! Are you ready for the Halloween you’ll never forget?
This year, the SBA Halloween Party is moving from its traditional Mission Beach location to downtown’s hottest new hotel, the Se. Not only does USD Law get to leave its mark on downtown for the second time this year, the change of venue will make this year’s party memorable, so long as you don’t hit the drink specials too hard.
“I am really excited this year; we are going to have the whole hotel to ourselves,” said Mehtab Sandhu, the current SBA social chair and event organizer. “Se liked having us there for [the] orientation [party]; they are really happy to have us back.”
The event will feature three DJs on three different levels, with each floor showcasing different music. This is just one of the many reasons students are so excited for this year’s event.
“The Halloween party is a tradition that has been going on for awhile. The SBA loves putting it on, and the students really appreciate it,” said Sandhu.
Though still considered in the mainstream to be a children’s holiday, Halloween has become an extremely popular event for young professionals in recent years. Between the free-flowing alcohol and costume one-upsmanship, it seems safe to say that no other holiday yields more untagged photos on Facebook. And who wants to miss that?
This event is especially sacred to USD Law students.
“Everyone goes to the Halloween party; it’s the biggest event of the year,” said Sandhu.
“Come November 1, everyone starts freaking out about finals. Having a party on October 30 helps people put things in perspective,” explained Sandhu. “There’s going to be great music, three dance floors, drink specials, a raffle, and even a costume contest.”
That’s right, everyone; it’s time to get creative. Though most people do not give law students much credit, we apparently come up with some amazing costumes.
“People get really dressed up. [One year], a group of [students] came as Transformers. Their costumes could actually mold and transform,” recalled Sandhu. Unsurprisingly, they took home the prize for the best group costume.
There are also going to be some great drink specials. Your options range from $5 Coronas to $7 well drinks. But maybe you will be brave and opt for the mysterious “Witches Brew,” also $5, instead.
“I’m not exactly sure what that’s going to be. The hotel is going to come up with [that one],” said Sandhu.
