Pitch Perfect: Week One

Pitch Perfect: Week One
By Ali Adelman

Walking through Warren Hall on a Thursday there is simply no avoiding it, softball is in the air. September 12, 2013, marked the return of the intramural season and the first night of games for Fall 2013. Like clockwork, almost every classroom was packed with students sporting their team jerseys, all vying for the cleverest law-related pun as their team name. This season’s teams include: Torts Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, Hung Jurors, Gavel Bangers, North Koreans, Writ it and Quit it, Pitch Please, Low Expectations, I’d Hit That, Hall Wedois Wynn, Barry’s Bail Bonds, 1L of a Team, The Sandlawt, Intentional Battery, Pro Boners, Demigods of Law, Lengthy Dictums, and Show Us Your Torts.

The league lost several strong 3L teams to graduation, but last season’s champion is still in the running. Pitch Please, now mostly comprised of 3Ls, are back-to-back champions and are looking to three-peat. They started off with a 13-10 victory on Thursday against the 2L team Hall Wedois Wynn and are the team to beat this season.

The league hopes for some strong 1L showings, as the older teams usually expect to crush the rookies. However, multiple 1L teams qualified for the playoffs last year and hopefully this crop of newbies can offer up some fierce competitors. Both Lengthy Dicta and Hung Jurors have already started off strong with wins on their Thursday night debuts.

Already the fall softball season looks as if it will be both competitive and entertaining. So don’t forget to come out and cheer (or heckle, I don’t judge) your favorite. All games take place on Thursday nights at Manchester Valley Field (east end of campus), starting at 7:00pm, 8:00pm, 9:00pm, and 10:00pm.
