Pitch Perfect: Week Four

Pitch Perfect: Week Four

We are nearing the middle of the season and the top bracket continues to pull away. Pitch Please remains at the top of the standings, with a perfect 4-0 record and an intimidating +40 run differential.  Week four saw the North Koreans run out of juche as Low Expectations brought the dream team down, much like a similarly named nuclear testing program. All jokes aside, Low Expectations sits comfortably in second place but has a big hurdle to jump given the 26 run buffer Pitch Please has put in place.

The first game of the night proved the most exciting, as SOLES beat Barry’s Bail Bonds by one run in a nail-biter.  However, the remainder of the night was one blowout after another: Pitch Please laid low (the then undefeated) Writ It and Quit it 18-2, Torts Illustrated beat down 1L of a Team with a mercy-rule victory, Hung Jurors beat Pro Boners 15-6, and Swingers took down I’d Hit That with an 11-0 shutout.

But don’t lose heart yet – the upcoming week’s games have a bit more potential with several equally matched teams facing off.  Near the bottom of the pack Barry’s Bail Bonds and Pro Boners play each other at 7:00pm on field A; and at the other end of the bracket the North Koreans will play the closely ranked Gavel Bangers. Dead middle, Torts Illustrated Swimsuit Edition will face the Swingers, both of whom are sporting a 2-2 record with only 4 runs between them. Writ it and Quit it faces Lengthy Dictums, as both teams have only suffered one loss thus far there is sure to be some heartbreak in store for at least one team.

Finally, giving credit where credit is due, it is worth mentioning that this week was noticeably quieter than its predecessor. The league powers-that-be pulled through and returned the umpire/team relationship to its usual witty, but decidedly more friendly, banter. Well, perhaps not always witty, but that is not a case for the Commissioner.
