This year Valentine’s Day falls on Friday, February 14. This affords guys and girls alike the opportunity to turn the day of love into a whole weekend adventure. So, why not do things right and head out of town for the weekend? Forget about the worries of law school and the threat of impending midterms and ominous finals to spend some quality time with that special someone in your life.

One exciting destination full of nonstop activities is only 2 hours away: LA. San Diego can be a nice and beautiful place to enjoy the special day, but sometimes you just need a change of scenery. Los Angeles provides just this option.

Let’s break it down day-by-day:

Friday, February 14th: You pick up your special boo in the afternoon and head up to LA before the horrendous traffic takes hold. There is always the option of booking a special room at the ultra-trendy W Westwood or Beverly Hilton on the Westside. Once your all checked in spend the rest of the afternoon strolling around the world famous Third Street Promenade, taking in the street performers and doing some last minute shopping for the special night. After shoppi

Sunday, February 16: After waking up late, head over to Sqirl on Virgil Ave. You can detox and relax as you eat some delicious Sun Choked Hash and enjoy a solid cup of coffee. After, depending on the conditions of the day, consider renting a small sailboat at Marina Del Ray and sail around the harbor as you sip on a beer and enjoy your other half’s company. If sailing is not your idea of a good time, there is always the option of more shopping at the Beverly Center or strolling Rodeo Drive and using Sprinkle’s new Cupcake ATM machine. After returning to your hotel reminisce about what a great time you both had over the weekend. Then pack up the car and head back to San, head to Fogo de Chaos in Beverly Hills for a romantic night of unlimited Brazilian barbeque. Though a little on the pricey side, you have to splurge on your boo on Valentine’s Day. After getting an onslaught of delicious varieties of every meat under the sun, spend the remainder of the night under the stars at the Griffith Observatory. With an unbelievable view of the entire city, you will score major points with your girlfriend as you take in the city lights and the stars.

Saturday, February 15th: After sleeping in, you can have a delicious brunch at Salt’s Cure in West Hollywood. This renowned restaurant is an L.A. brunch icon and is most famous for its 2x2x2. If you wake up a little too late for brunch, you can always make yourself feel like Vince, E, Johnny Drama, and Turtle and pick up lunch at Urth Caffé on Melrose. Though always a little crowded side, you cannot go wrong eating the turkey burger or pot roast sandwich and picking up some coffee in a variety of unique flavors to help get you through the rest of the day.

After lunch, head up the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu and the Getty Villa. Make sure to make a reservation for this museum, as getting the reservation the day of can be quite tricky. The museum is beautiful with great gardens to stroll through and interesting art pieces to gaze at for hours. It also does not hurt that the beautiful Malibu beaches are just on the other side of the road. As the evening approaches you can have dinner at CUT in Beverly Hills. This trendy steakhouse is popular with Hollywood’s elite, so you may even see a movie star or two next to you as you much on some prime filet. After CUT, if you are in the clubbing mood, gather some friends and head out to a club in West Hollywood. Bar Lubtisch, Rage, and the Viper Room are some of the most famous and exciting places to be on a Saturday night in West Hollywood, so enjoy.

All in all, a trip to Los Angeles can be a very eventful Valentine’s weekend activity. For those you law students from out of town who have not had the chance to take in our neighboring cities and those locals too lazy to travel, a trip to Los Angeles promises to be a worthwhile endeavor for both you and your significant other. Also, be sure to take plenty of pictures for Facebook so you can brag to all your single friends about your exciting weekend during Nonprofit Law or Cal Civ Pro on Monday.
