Pitch Perfect, Spring Week Six

Pitch Perfect, Spring Season Week Six
By Ali Adelman

While some students were a little slow transitioning back into law school mode after spring break, it was clear on Thursday that when it came to softball everyone brought their “A” game. Thursday night saw excellence in offense, defense, and the plain-old team spirit department.  Although some players were paining over spring break sunburns, the heat lit a fire under a few teams. Both Barry’s Bail Bonds and Lengthy Dictums started off the night with blowouts, beating Writ it and Quit it and 1L of a Team, respectively.

The North Koreans gave Pitch Please a run for their money, but still couldn’t overcome the 9 runs the Pitch Please offense scored early and the North Koreans suffered a 9-5 loss in the end. Pitch Please seems to only be improving this season, so they are definitely a team to watch as the playoffs approach ever nearer.

Show Me Your Torts secured its second win of the season against Sandlawt, who seemed to be off their game last week.  The game-winning run came in the final inning of play making for a heart-wrenching defeat for Sandlawt. To make things even bitterer, the loss dropped Sandlawt to 10th place overall; Show Me Your Torts now sits 16th, which, for them, is a solid boost.

The following two games were blowouts: the now first place and ever-intimidating Gavel Bangers (with a league shattering run differential of 58) hung up the Hung Jurors with a final score of 19-1. The Gavel Bangers ran with that momentum all the way to their second game of the night and defeated I’d Hit That as well for a final score of 12-2.

It was a battle of the 2L’s during the last game of the night. Torts Illustrated and Swingers battled at the otherwise deserted fields at 10pm Thursday night.  The game was filled with good spirited competition, as most of the players on opposite sides of the diamond were close friends.  The game remained tied through 4 innings, but the Swingers couldn’t stymie the Torts Illustrated offense as it took over in the 5th inning. TI took an 8-4 lead, which proved to be the final score.  Torts Illustrated sits in 3rd place while Swingers now dip to 7th. Both teams will likely make the playoffs if they keep up their current level of play.

The number of games remaining the season is steadily decreasing, so come get your weekly dose of intramural softball this Thursday night at Manchester Field starting at 7pm.
