Pitch Perfect, Spring Finale

Pitch Perfect, Spring Finale

By Ali Adelman

The 2014 Spring USD Intramural Softball season is officially complete and a champion has risen once again. 2014 Nostalgia Fun Team has successfully defended their title.

Low Expectations and the Sandlawt faced off in the first semi-final game of the intramural playoffs. Sandlawt was coming off an impressive win against the #3 seeded and offensive power, the Gavel Bangers, but unfortunately did not carry the momentum through. The Sandlawt lost a heart breaker to Low Expectations 12-9.  In the other semi-final, the Dirty Briefs could not quite handle the double-header (they beat 2L team Torts Illustrated14-8 prior to the semi-final), and lost a close game to last years reigning champions the 2014 Nostalgia Fun Team, by a score of 12-10. Thus, only 3L teams remained.

This past Thursday provided a high-energy and high stakes championship game as Low Expectations faced the reigning champions 2014 Nostalgia Fun Team in an unprecedented rematch of last season’s championship. Low Expectations brought higher expectations than normal, as they had their eye set on revenge after last season’s loss. Low Expectations and 2014 Nostalgia Fun Team battled for the lead every inning and both teams fought until the very end. Stellar defense was shown from both sides of the field, but only one team could overcome the rock solid defense with the offensive power necessary to take the cake.

Entering the fifth inning down, the 2014 Nostalgia Fun Team pulled ahead thanks to a clutch three-run homer. Low Expectations was able to get runners on base, and the tying run in scoring position, but unable to bring that run home. The Spring 2014 outcome was the same as the Fall 2013, as 2014 Nostalgia Fun Team defeated Low Expectations 10-7, to successfully defend their title.

Congratulations are due to the champions, hopefully that enthusiasm and vigor will follow them through finals and into the bar exam.

After another memorable season has come and gone, we wish the 3L’s a sad farewell! 2L teams are ready to take over the top spots, as we will lose a number of very successful 3L softball teams with this years graduating class. Good luck to everyone, and to returning students: keep up your game this summer! The fall season is right around the corner with plenty of young and energized 1Ls waiting to step on the field. The back-to-back titles seem to be a trend so you have big shoes to fill. Can’t wait to see what next year brings and if the trend continues!
