Scheffler is on the verge of a historic run as RBC Heritage finishes on Monday

It will take another day for Scottie Scheffler’s scorching run to come to an end. The 2024 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links was forced to postpone till Monday due to a large rain delay on Sunday. Fans of Scheffler should be relieved that it doesn’t appear that the delay will hinder his outstanding performance.

With three holes left in his competition, the World No. 1 is presently leading by five strokes at 20-under par. His nearest rival, Wyndham Clark, is currently in the clubhouse at 15 under after having completed his round. Scheffler is in a strong position to win for the fourth time in his previous five starts, which would cede his status as the world’s hottest golfer.

Scheffler faced difficulties along the way to success. The 2023 US Open winner, Wyndham Clark, put out a heroic effort on Sunday. Clark had a seven-hole deficit to begin the day, but he rallied for an eight-under total through his opening eight holes, including an eagle on the par-5 second hole. For a little while, this push put him within striking distance of Scheffler, creating anticipation for an exciting conclusion.

Scheffler, though, was unswayed. Prior to the rain delay, he had already completed 15 holes with two birdies and an eagle, matching Clark’s excellent play. This impressive display not only stopped Clark’s momentum but also created a sizable lead.

Other players are still fighting for a good finish while Clark waits in the clubhouse to hear Scheffler’s fate. Sahith Theegala, Patrick Cantlay, and J.T. Poston are three players who are in contention; their respective scores are 15-under (through 15 holes), 14-under (through 17 holes), and 13-under. But in order for these golfers to contend for the championship on Monday, they will need Scheffler to shoot almost perfectly in addition to their own outstanding play.

The last round becomes much more intriguing because of the weather delay. When Scheffler gets back into the game on Monday morning, he’ll need to be composed and focused. Even if he has a five-stroke lead, he still has to consider the strain of perhaps winning in history and the possibility of Monday jitters.

If Scheffler can turn his lead into a win, that would firmly establish him as the game’s dominant player. His most recent victories at The Players Championship, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and The Masters demonstrate his extraordinary consistency and capacity for success under duress. Winning at the RBC Heritage would add to his already strong resume and extend his winning streak to an incredible four out of the last five tournaments.

For those who follow the game, Monday’s RBC Heritage final looks thrilling. Will Scheffler win his fourth game in five starts to cap off his impressive march? Or will an unlikely comeback be made by one of the chasing packs? The answer will come with time and some excellent golf on Monday morning.
